About Skeppevik DX

I'm Mats, and I listen for distant radio stations on mediumwave. Everything I hear is logged, and what can be shown ends up here.

What DX is

DX means listening over long distances. On mediumwave, 530–1700 kHz, the ionosphere carries signals far only after dark. Then a station on Newfoundland or in Cairo can be heard on the Baltic coast, sometimes only for a few minutes at a time, often underneath a stronger neighbour on the same channel.

From where

From two places: Skeppevik on the coast of Torsås municipality, with long wire antennas in the grass, and a balcony in Karlskrona with an active loop. The place is on every log entry, because an antenna and a place always belong with what was heard.

Then and now

I first listened in the late 1970s and kept the QSL cards in a binder. In the autumn of 2026 I started again — with the same curiosity and a few new tools: a receiver that records the whole band, and an app of my own that keeps the log, the forecasts and the reports in order.

Why week, not date

The site never shows when I listen or where I am on a given night. That's why everything is given as a week, times are in UTC, and nothing is said about coming nights. It isn't secrecy — just ordinary caution.
